Who is responsible for running The Market House?
How much does it cost to run?
- Annual costs are about £26,000.
How does it afford this?
Through lettings. It depends on income from hirers. The main part of this comes from commercial hirings. Community hire brings in about £3,500, because charges are kept low.
In addition to the running costs the Market Hall also needs to be refurbished from time to time. We have recently managed to obtain Lottery funding which has enabled us to:-
Re-fit the Kitchen.
Tarmac and fence the Play Area.
Install security
Purchase essential new office equipment.
Advertise the Market Hall by means of this Website and Local Radio.
Suppose I want to hire it for a children's party. What do I do?
See Les Bartle who has an office at the rear of the building. He is there, (or in the building) Monday to Friday mornings. He will tell you the charges and arrange a date. If you can't pop in, you can reach him by phone or E-mail.
What if the date I want for my wedding reception is already booked by a craft fair?
Who do I see if I have a complaint about the Market House?
Why make any charge at all for community use?
You have seen what it costs to run the facility. If that money is not found, the Market House could not continue to be the great resource it is for the people of Hawes and district. The community charges are kept as low as possible, but the Trustees are bound by Charity Commission rules to obtain viable rents.
The Market House has an AGM, members of the public are welcome.
